Dare to venture the roads less traveled on your next getaway
With a few tips and tricks, going off-road to reach some of Canada’s most breathtaking destinations is more accessible than you think!
Make sure you're prepared before heading out
It’s important to have the right equipment before hitting the trails, including: front and rear tow points, a tow strap, full-sized spare tire, basic first-aid kit, portable air compressor, duct tape, tool kit, tire jack, jumper cables.
Choose the right tire
Having the right tires is of key importance when preparing for an off-road exploration.
“When it comes to any endeavor, nothing beats the confidence and peace of mind that comes from being thoroughly prepared,” says Brandon Sturgis, Global Product Manager at BFGoodrich. “Even light off-roading demands the right tire for optimal performance and safety.
Just as a sturdy foundation supports a structure, the right tire provides the traction, durability, and control needed to navigate diverse terrains, unlocking a world of possibilities for adventure enthusiasts.”

Tips to help you drive on different types of terrain
SAND & MUD
Use steady momentum all the way through;
In sand, if your wheels start to spin, ease off the gas a little to let the tires slow down and regain traction;
In mud, maintain some wheel spin to help clear mud from the drive tires.
ROCKS & DITCHES
Approach obstacles at an angle, so that only one tire engages, leaving the other three tires on the ground for traction.
MODERATE HILLS
Approach the hill straight on, so the weight is distributed equally, providing equal traction to all four tires;
Use as high a gear as the vehicle will handle comfortably on the hill. If the gear is too low, you will spin the tires. If it's too high, it won't have enough power.
