POINT S CANADA NAMED ONE OF CANADA’S BEST MANAGED COMPANIES FOR A FOURTH YEAR IN A ROW
For a fourth consecutive year, Point S Canada’s overall performance and sustained growth has been recognized by the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program, with the company receiving the prestigious Gold Standard award. The winners of the 2021 Best Managed program represent the cream of the crop of Canadian owned and managed companies with more than $25 million in sales. They have showcased their leadership in terms of strategy, skill, innovation, culture, financing and commitment to achieving sustainable growth. Canada’s Best Managed Companies program, now in its 28th year, is the country’s leading business awards program, recognizing the merits of Canadian owned and managed companies for their innovative and world-class commercial practices.
Every year, hundreds of companies participate in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates the calibre of their management abilities and practices. “Receiving the Gold Standard award for a fourth consecutive year is a great achievement for our company,” says Bruno Leclair, President and CEO of Point S Canada and Unimax. “It is a testament to our drive to continuously push ourselves and innovate in our industry. In addition, our plan to expand outside Quebec is going very smoothly. We now have close to 70 stores throughout Ontario and the Atlantic provinces.”
“This year’s Best Managed winners are a great example of the importance of leadership in the face of adversity,” says Peter Brown, Partner, Deloitte, and coleader of Canada’s Best Managed Companies program. “With each of them basing its organization on its own unique purpose, they have led the way with courage and resilience. In this unprecedented year, these companies can be extremely proud not only of receiving this award, but also of the key role they play in Canada’s progress and prosperity.”
Nominees are evaluated by an independent panel consisting of the sponsors’ representatives and special guest judges. Some features shared by the best managed companies of 2021 include implementing remote work, making their employees’ health a top priority, becoming increasingly socially responsible and focusing considerably more on cash flows. “CIBC is proud to be a sponsor of Canada’s Best Managed program, which celebrates the amazing achievements of the country’s best-in-class organizations in a wide range of industries,” says Dino Medves, Senior Vice President and Head of Commercial Banking at CIBC. “Throughout this past year, these winners not only overcame the immediate challenges created by the pandemic, but they also managed to prepare for future growth and investment in a new, challenging environment.”
A virtual gala will be held to celebrate the 2021 Best Managed Companies winners. A virtual Best Managed symposium will also be held to discuss business topics that are key to the success of today’s business leaders. The Best Managed program is sponsored by Deloitte Private, CIBC, Canadian Business, Smith School of Business and TMX Group.
About Canada’s Best Managed Companies
Established in 1993, Canada's Best Managed Companies is the country’s leading business awards program, recognizing excellence in Canadian owned and managed companies with revenues over $25 million. Every year, hundreds of entrepreneurial companies compete for this designation in a rigorous and independent process that evaluates the calibre of their management abilities and practices. There are four award categories: 1) Best Managed new winner (one of the new winners selected each year); 2) Best Managed return winner (award recipients that have reapplied and successfully retained their Best Managed designation for two additional years, subject to an annual review of their operational results and finances); 3) Gold Standard (after three consecutive years of maintaining their Best Managed status, these winners have demonstrated their commitment to the program and successfully retained their Best Managed status for 4-6 consecutive years); 4) Platinum Club (winners who have retained their Best Managed status for seven or more consecutive years). The program is sponsored by Deloitte Private, CIBC, Canadian Business, Smith School of Business and TMX Group.
